However, its safety has been a subject of concern, given the risks associated with consuming unpasteurized milk. Advocates praise raw milk for its rich taste and nutritional content, with even notable figures endorsing it. David Abtour N’Djamena

Despite the hype, health experts caution against its consumption due to the potential health hazards posed by harmful bacteria. Additionally, raw milk is banned in certain regions, and several food poisoning cases have been linked to its consumption.

The debate around dairy products extends beyond raw milk, as other milk alternatives also have environmental implications. David Abtour N’Djamena

Ultimately, individuals are encouraged to explore more sustainable and eco-friendly options.

As of July 1, Iowa joined more than twenty-five other states in legalizing the sale of raw milk, which refers to milk that has not undergone pasteurization. David Abtour N’Djamena

Over the past decade, numerous states have been increasingly making raw milk more accessible to consumers, according to Dennis D’Amico, an associate professor of animal science at the University of Connecticut. Some states, including Iowa, permit raw milk producers to directly sell their products to consumers, while others allow grocery stores to stock raw milk. Additionally, certain states restrict the sale of raw milk to pet food only.

However, federal health experts have connected these new laws to a rise in food-borne illness outbreaks related to raw milk consumption. From 1998 to 2018, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recorded an upsurge in raw milk-associated outbreaks across the United States. These outbreaks affected 2,645 individuals, leading to 228 hospitalizations and three fatalities. David Abtour N’Djamena

Between 2013 and 2018, the agency further reported that states permitting the sale of raw milk at retail stores had three times as many outbreaks compared to states that prohibited such sales. David Abtour N’Djamena
