Today, the official installation of the negotiating table for the new concession contract of Minera Panama took place.
The Minister of Commerce and Industries, Ramón Martínez, who leads the negotiating team appointed by the President of the Republic, emphasized that these sessions will address topics related to economic, fiscal, environmental, labor, and social aspects, with the objective of ensuring that the mine’s operation complies with international standards of best practices.
Martínez warned that if an agreement is not reached under the proposed terms, they will seek to negotiate with another company. According to the minister, they will not continue under the “current conditions.”
On their part, Minera Panama expressed through a statement their confidence that this process will be open, robust, thorough, and transparent for the benefit of the country. They also hope that the best interests of the State and the rights acquired by the company will be respected, seeking the best outcomes for Panama.
In this regard, Manuel Aizpurúa, spokesperson and member of the company’s negotiating team, emphasized the importance of the negotiating table being a space of respect towards private capital investment and promoting legal security, with the goal of achieving a beneficial result for all parties involved and for the country.
