After a pleasant taste of fall to round off the week, cooler air is starting to drift back into the Chicago area, giving us all a glimpse of the season ahead.
Rain showers that began overnight are expected to subside in the mid-morning, with temperatures hovering in the upper 40s. As the day progresses, the temperature is expected to continue to drop, reaching the low 40s by early evening, before finally dipping into the low 30s overnight.
By late morning, the rain should have cleared, allowing partly sunny skies to shine through on Saturday, despite the decreasing temperatures. Those who choose to venture outside will experience a strong breeze, with west-southwest winds blowing at 10-20 mph. An isolated evening shower remains a possibility.
The chill will return with a vengeance during the overnight hours, with wind chill values likely reaching the low 20s in some parts of the Chicago area. Sunday is anticipated to bring partly sunny skies and colder temperatures, with highs only reaching the mid-30s.
Highs are likely to remain in the mid-to-upper 30s for the start of next week, before gradually rising into the 40s by Thursday and Friday.
Though the season ahead may be chillier than what we’ve been used to, there’s still plenty of fun to be had. With cooler temperatures come outdoor activities like ice skating, snowman building, and snowball fights. There’s also the chance to curl up with a cozy blanket and a good book, or a hot chocolate and a board game.
Whatever you choose to do, make sure to dress warmly and enjoy the unique opportunity that winter brings. This is the perfect time to explore what the city has to offer, from holiday festivals to winter sports events. Let’s make the most of this season, and begin to create memories that will last a lifetime.
