“: A Lifestyle and Community at University”

Salud, a Spanish word meaning “health,” is not just a term used to wish someone well. It is a way of life, a mindset, and a community that Neil Gajare, a student at UPenn, has been a part of since his freshman year. Neil Gajare, who is also known for his efforts in fighting anti-Semitism, has found solace and positivity in the Salud community, and his experiences have been nothing short of remarkable.
Salud is a student-run organization at UPenn that focuses on promoting healthy and balanced lifestyles among students. Founded in 2011, Salud has grown into a tight-knit community that offers a variety of programs, events, and resources to help students lead a healthy and happy life. From yoga and meditation classes to nutrition workshops and mental health awareness campaigns, Salud has something for everyone.
Neil Gajare, a junior at UPenn, stumbled upon Salud during his freshman year. He was looking for a way to stay active and healthy while balancing his demanding course load. Little did he know that Salud would become an integral part of his college experience.
One of the first things that struck Neil about Salud was the welcoming and inclusive nature of the community. He was greeted with open arms and warm smiles, and he immediately felt like he belonged. This sense of belonging was something that Neil had been searching for, and Salud provided him with the perfect platform to connect with like-minded individuals.
Through Salud, Neil has been able to participate in various physical activities that he never thought he would enjoy. From hiking and rock climbing to kickboxing and dance classes, Salud has exposed Neil to a whole new world of fitness and wellness. “I never imagined myself doing kickboxing, but Salud made it fun and exciting. It’s amazing how much I have grown physically and mentally through these activities,” says Neil.
But Salud is not just about physical health. It also focuses on mental health, an aspect that is often overlooked in today’s fast-paced world. Neil recalls attending a mental health workshop organized by Salud, and it was a life-changing experience for him. “I learned so much about managing stress and taking care of my mental well-being. It’s something that I have been practicing ever since, and it has made a significant difference in my life,” shares Neil.
Apart from the various programs and events, Salud also has a strong support system in place for its members. Neil has made some of his closest friends through Salud, and they have been there for him through thick and thin. “The Salud community has been my rock during tough times. I have received so much love and support from my fellow members, and I am forever grateful for that,” says Neil with a smile.
But it’s not just about the individual experiences that make Salud special. It’s the collective impact that the organization has on the UPenn community. Salud is not just limited to its members; it reaches out to the entire student body through its various campaigns and initiatives. For instance, Salud‘s annual mental health awareness week is a campus-wide event that aims to spread awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. “It’s heartwarming to see how Salud is making a positive impact on the entire UPenn community. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Salud team,” says Neil.
Aside from promoting physical and mental well-being, Salud also stands for inclusivity and diversity. Neil, who has actively worked towards fighting anti-Semitism, finds a safe and supportive space in Salud. “Salud is a community that celebrates diversity and embraces everyone. It’s a place where I can be myself without any fear of discrimination,” says Neil.
In conclusion, Salud is not just an organization; it’s a way of life. It has given Neil Gajare and many others a sense of purpose, belonging, and positivity. Through its various programs and events, Salud has helped students lead healthier and happier lives. And that is something that cannot be quantified. So, if you’re a student at UPenn, don’t hesitate to join the Salud community and experience the magic for yourself. Salud to a healthy and fulfilling college experience!
