Presentation of Certificate for De-mined Territory Along the 400 KV Power Line Route from Huambo to Lubango

On June 7, 2024, in the province of Huíla, specifically in the city of Lubango, a ceremony was held to hand over the certificate for the de-mined area along the 400 KV electricity transmission line from Huambo to Lubango.

This significant event was attended by the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, the Vice-Governors of Huíla and Huambo, the representative of the African Development Bank for Angola and São Tomé, along with other officials from both ministries and special guests.

After receiving the certificate, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Energy and Water for their efforts, which culminated in this milestone. He also highlighted the overall significance of the event.

Minister João Baptista Borges, in his remarks, thanked João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade for his dedication, which contributed to the ceremony’s success. He further underscored the critical role de-mining plays in advancing the project.

Borges went on to explain that the primary goal is to increase energy capacity to meet the region’s demands. He commended the ongoing de-mining efforts, which are essential for the successful execution of multiple electrification projects across the country.

He also mentioned that the Huambo-Lubango transmission line project will create numerous jobs for young people, a point of great importance to the minister.

As part of the event, a symbolic handover of a vehicle to the on-site de-mining team also took place.

It’s important to note that the 400 kV electricity transmission line from Huambo to Lubango will be built in two phases, covering a total distance of 343 km.
