Three Seasons In, And Just Like That Is Finally Its Own Gloriously Preposterous Thing

As a die-hard fan of the iconic TV series ‘Sex and the City’, I was thrilled when the first movie adaptation was released in 2008. It was a delightful and nostalgic experience to see my favorite characters back on the big screen, navigating their complicated love lives and fabulous fashion in the city that never sleeps. So, when a sequel was announced, I was ecstatic. But, to my surprise, ‘Sex and the City 2’ received overwhelmingly negative reviews and was deemed as a ‘preposterous’ sequel by many. However, after watching it multiple times, I can proudly say that I have learned to love this so-called preposterous sequel. In fact, I believe it is a must-watch for every fan and here’s why.

First and foremost, the most significant aspect of ‘Sex and the City 2’ is its celebration of female friendships. The heart and soul of the TV series and movies have always been the bond between Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha. And this sequel stays true to that theme. The movie delves into the struggles and strengths of each character’s relationships and how they rely on each other for support and love. It shows that even in the face of conflicts and challenges, true friendships remain unbreakable. As a woman, watching the four leading ladies stand by each other and empower one another was a truly heartwarming experience.

Moreover, ‘Sex and the City 2’ tackles important social issues that many modern women face. From the pressure to ‘have it all’ to the stigma around aging, the movie touches upon various topics that are relevant and relatable. The movie also portrays the struggles of balancing motherhood, marriage, and career, which are all too familiar for many women. Instead of shying away from these topics, the movie addresses them head-on and sends an empowering message to all women – it’s okay to not have it all figured out, and it’s important to support and uplift each other.

Another reason why I have learned to love this sequel is its lavish and glamorous depiction of Abu Dhabi. Yes, the movie received criticism for its portrayal of the Middle East, but as a fan, I couldn’t help but appreciate the visual feast that was presented on screen. The extravagant locations, stunning fashion, and luxurious lifestyle were a feast for the eyes. And let’s not forget the iconic scene where the ladies ride on camels in their designer gowns – it was pure entertainment and pure ‘Sex and the City’ style.

Furthermore, the movie also explores the dynamics of marriage and long-term relationships. The first movie ended with Carrie finally walking down the aisle with Mr. Big, and the sequel shows the realities of life after the happily-ever-after. It highlights the importance of communication, compromise, and keeping the spark alive in a marriage. It also addresses the issue of infidelity and how it can affect a relationship. While these may be heavy themes, the movie manages to present them in a light-hearted and relatable way, making it a must-watch for any couple.

Lastly, ‘Sex and the City 2’ is a feel-good movie that promises two hours of pure fun and entertainment. It’s a little escape to the glamorous and drama-filled world of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha. And let’s face it, in the fast-paced and stressful world we live in, we all could use a little bit of that. From the catchy soundtrack to the witty one-liners, the movie is a perfect dose of escapism and nostalgia for any ‘Sex and the City’ fan.

In conclusion, I urge all the fans who have dismissed ‘Sex and the City 2’ as a preposterous sequel to give it another chance. It may not be as groundbreaking as the TV series or as emotionally satisfying as the first movie, but it definitely has its own charm and merits. It celebrates female friendships, tackles important issues, and offers a much-needed escape from reality. And if you’re a true ‘Sex and the City’ fan, you’ll find yourself loving this movie just like I did. So, let go of any preconceived notions and rewatch the sequel with an open mind – you might just be pleasantly surprised. As for me, I have stopped worrying about the critics and have learned to love this preposterous sequel.
