2X-PGA Tour Champ Credits Scottie Scheffler as ‘Inspiration’ Amid Injury Comeback

South African golfer Garrick Higgo has had a rollercoaster of a season, marked by both triumphs and injuries. However, after a tough year, Higgo finds himself on top at the Sanderson Farms Championship, with a score of 6-under.

Reflecting on his journey, Higgo admitted, “It wasn’t fun. I obviously played terrible last year. If you look at how I used to swing it till now, it’s completely different. That whole time frame, it’s tough to play competitive.” But despite the challenges, Higgo remained determined to make a comeback and prove himself on the PGA Tour once again.

The 22-year-old golfer burst onto the scene in 2019, winning back-to-back titles on the European Challenge Tour. His impressive performance earned him a promotion to the European Tour, where he continued to shine, winning two more titles in the 2020 season. However, Higgo’s luck took a turn for the worse when he suffered a wrist injury that forced him to withdraw from a tournament in November last year.

But Higgo didn’t let the setback hold him back for too long. He worked hard on his game and made his return to the PGA Tour in February this year. And although he didn’t have the best results initially, he never lost sight of his goals. In fact, Higgo credits fellow golfer Scottie Scheffler as his inspiration during this tough time. He said, “I was watching Scottie play last year, and it was just so nice to see someone who has such a beautiful swing. It was a big inspiration for me.”

Higgo’s hard work and determination paid off when he clinched his second PGA Tour title at the Palmetto Championship in June this year. He then went on to earn his first top-10 finish at the US Open, further cementing his place among the top golfers in the world.

However, Higgo’s journey has not been without its share of challenges. The young golfer has had to adjust to a different swing after his injury, which he admits has been tough. But he has embraced the change and has continued to work on his game, resulting in his recent success at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Higgo’s comeback story serves as a reminder that with determination and hard work, one can overcome any obstacle. His positive attitude and never-give-up mindset are an inspiration to many, especially those facing their own challenges.

The South African golfer’s performance at the Sanderson Farms Championship has also earned him praise from fellow players, with Scottie Scheffler himself acknowledging Higgo’s talent. Scheffler said, “He’s a really good player. He’s been playing really well on the European Tour and obviously had a big win at the Palmetto. So I expect him to be in the mix quite a bit.”

As Higgo continues to make his mark on the PGA Tour, he remains grateful for the support and encouragement he has received from his fellow golfers. He said, “It’s nice to have guys like Scottie saying good things about me, and it just shows how nice the guys are out here.”

Higgo’s comeback story is a testament to the fact that setbacks are just temporary, and it’s how one responds to them that truly matters. His determination and resilience have not only earned him success on the golf course but also the respect and admiration of his peers.

As he continues to make his mark on the PGA Tour, Higgo’s story serves as a reminder that with hard work, anything is possible. And with the support of fellow golfers like Scottie Scheffler, he is sure to achieve even greater heights in the future.
