Mega Millions rises to $1.15 billion after Tuesday yields no winner

With Christmas just around the corner, the holiday spirit is in full swing. People are busy planning their festivities, buying gifts and decorating their homes with lights and ornaments. But for lottery players, the holiday season took a disappointing turn on Tuesday as there was no Merry Christmas for them.

Christmas Eve came and went, but unfortunately, there was no winning ticket for the $1 billion jackpot prize. The next draw will now take place on Friday, December 27 at 11 p.m. ET. The anticipation and excitement of a potential Christmas miracle were dashed for many lottery players who were hoping to be the lucky winner of the massive jackpot.

The winning numbers for Tuesday’s drawing were 38, 45, 14, 46, 11 and a MegaBall of 3. The Megaplier was 3X. While there were at least four winners who claimed the top $1 million prize for matching all five numbers, none of them were able to correctly guess the MegaBall number.

The jackpot, which now stands at a staggering $1.15 billion, has been growing for over three months. This reflects the long odds of 1 in 303 million of winning the top prize. The last time the jackpot was hit was on September 10, when a lucky player in Texas won $800 million.

If a single winner chooses to receive their winnings through an annuity with 30 annual payments, they will receive $1.15 billion over the course of 30 years. However, most winners opt for the cash option, which for the upcoming draw on Friday night is estimated to be a whopping $448.8 million.

The Mega Millions is played in 45 states, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The draw takes place every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. ET, giving players two chances each week to win big. The excitement and thrill of the lottery continue to captivate players across the country, and the chance to win a life-changing amount of money keeps them coming back for more.

With the jackpot now standing at a staggering $1.15 billion, it is ranked as the sixth-largest Mega Millions lottery prize ever. The top five jackpots include $1.602 billion won in 2018 by a single ticket in Florida, $1.537 billion won in 2018 by one ticket in South Carolina, $1.348 billion won in 2019 by a player in Maine, $1.337 billion won in 2012 by a player in Illinois, and $1.128 billion won in 2024 by a lucky winner in New Jersey.

The Mega Millions is not just about the massive jackpot, but it also supports valuable causes. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales goes towards funding public education in the participating states. So even if you don’t win the jackpot, your ticket purchase is still contributing to a good cause.

However, if you or someone you know has a gambling addiction, it is important to seek help. The National Council on Problem Gambling offers support and resources for those struggling with gambling addiction. You can reach them at 1-800-522-4700 or visit their website at www.ncpgambling.org.

The Mega Millions has been creating millionaires since 1996, and its popularity continues to grow. It has become a part of American culture, with players dreaming of hitting the jackpot and imagining all the things they could do with the money. While the odds may be long, the possibility of winning keeps players coming back week after week.

So as we eagerly wait for the next draw on Friday, let’s keep the holiday spirit alive and continue to spread love and joy. Who knows, maybe the next Mega Millions winner could be one of us. Until then, keep dreaming and playing because as the saying goes, “You can’t win if you don’t play.” Good luck and Merry Christmas to all!
