MUNICIPALITIES OF CATCHIUNGO AND CHINGUAR CONNECTED TO THE NATIONAL ELECTRIC GRID
The Ministry of Energy and Water will inaugurate, on Saturday, December 14, 2024, the electrified networks of the municipalities of Catchiungo, in the Huambo Province, and Chinguar, in BiƩ, which are now connected to the National Electric Grid.
For the interconnection of the networks of these two locations, a 220/30 kV substation with an installed capacity of 20 MVA was built from January to December of this year, and 30 kilometers of medium-voltage distribution network cable were laid.
As part of the project, 15 Transformation Posts (PTs) with capacities from 160 to 30/0.4 kVA were installed, 29 kilometers of low-voltage distribution network cable were laid, 600 new public lighting points were created, and 1,600 new household connections were made.
This project, which falls under the framework of the energy transition, will save the state approximately 380,000,000.00 Kwanzas annually, with 270 million in the purchase of 1,550,000 liters of fossil fuel, and 110 million Kwanzas in administrative expenses.
The connection of these locations to the National Electric Grid will boost economic and social development, strengthen essential services such as healthcare, industry, and education, and stimulate local entrepreneurship.
With the integration of public lighting and the expansion of household connections, these communities now have the opportunity to enjoy better living conditions and greater security.
At the inauguration ceremony, which will include cultural and social activities, the Ministry of Energy and Water, in a gesture of Social Solidarity, will present a set of sports equipment and various clothing to the children of both municipalities.
The electrification and connection of Catchiungo and Chinguar to the National Electric Grid is a technical milestone and a symbol of progress and determination, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to building a more sustainable and inclusive future for Angola.
Before this investment, the power supply to these two locations relied on generators and thermal plants, whose installed capacity was insufficient to meet demand.
