Dani Busboom Kelly Hesitant About NCAA’s New Libero Rule as Nebraska Prepares for Lexi Rodriguez’s Absence

“The opportunity to come home to Nebraska is more than a dream come true,” said Dani Busboom Kelly as she officially took on the role of head coach for the Huskers in January. Now, that dream is about to become a reality as the Big Ten’s 2025 volleyball schedule has been released, and Dani is ready to take on the challenge.

After four successful years as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville, Dani’s return to her home state of Nebraska has been highly anticipated by fans and players alike. With a deep understanding and love for the program, Dani is determined to continue the legacy of the Huskers and lead them to new heights.

The 2025 schedule is a mix of familiar and new opponents, with the Huskers facing off against Big Ten rivals such as Penn State and Wisconsin, as well as non-conference opponents like Texas and Florida. But what stands out the most is the absence of star libero Lexi Rodriguez, who will be sitting out the season due to the NCAA’s new rule allowing players to take a redshirt year without losing eligibility.

Dani, who was instrumental in recruiting Lexi to Nebraska, is hesitant about the new rule and its impact on the team. As one of the top recruits in the country, Lexi’s absence will be felt on the court. But Dani remains confident in the depth and talent of her team, stating that “we have players who are ready to step up and fill that role.”

One of those players is senior libero Kenzie Knuckles, who has been a key player for the Huskers since her freshman year. With her experience and leadership, Kenzie is ready to take on a bigger role and lead the team’s defense. Dani also has faith in the younger players on the team, like sophomore defensive specialist Lindsay Krause, who has shown great potential in her limited playing time last season.

But it’s not just on the court where Dani’s impact will be felt. Her emphasis on building a strong team culture and fostering a sense of family among the players has already made a difference in the team’s dynamic. Senior setter Nicklin Hames, who has played under three different head coaches during her time at Nebraska, has praised Dani for creating a positive and supportive environment for the team.

Dani’s coaching philosophy centers around hard work, discipline, and a commitment to excellence. She has already implemented new training techniques and strategies, pushing the team to be the best they can be. Her dedication to the game and her players has earned her the respect and trust of the team, making her the perfect fit for the Huskers.

As the 2025 season approaches, excitement and anticipation are building among Husker fans. With Dani at the helm, the team is ready to take on any challenge that comes their way. And with the support of the passionate Husker Nation, there’s no doubt that the team will continue to make Nebraska proud.

In her own words, Dani sums up her feelings about her new role as head coach, saying “I am grateful for this opportunity and ready to give my all to this program.” Her enthusiasm and determination are infectious, and it’s clear that she is more than ready to lead the Huskers to victory.

So, as game time approaches, let’s join Dani and the Huskers in their journey to success. With her at the helm, the future is bright for Nebraska volleyball. Go Big Red!
