Hunter Biden’s Newest Indictment: No Charges Related to Foreign Business Interests
Hunter Biden, son of former Vice President Joe Biden, has recently been indicted on tax-related charges, but despite pressure from Republicans, the indictment has made no mention of Biden’s alleged involvement in foreign business interests.
The indictment was announced last Wednesday, stating that Hunter Biden was charged with filing fraudulent income tax returns in which he allegedly failed to report more than $15 million of income on his Trusts from 2014 through 2018. It also alleged that Hunter failed to pay approximately $500,000 worth of taxes.
Hunter Biden’s lawyer reiterated his client’s innocence in a statement, saying, “Hunter did not commit any crime and is confident that he will be exonerated after a full airing of the facts.” Biden is now facing up to 42 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
The indictment was met with criticism by many Republican lawmakers who had alleged that Hunter’s dealings with foreign entities in his work for Burisma Holdings, an Ukrainian gas company, were questionable. Some Republicans were expecting the indictment to bring those dealings to light, but the indictment failed to address this.
Despite the fact that the indictment did not include charges related to foreign business interests, President Joe Biden recently denounced any claims of wrongdoing by his son, saying, “My son, like a lot of people, like a lot of people you know at home, had a job. He worked. And he did nothing wrong.”
Vice President Kamala Harris also weighed in on the matter, saying, “We love our son and we have no doubt that when the truth comes out, he will be fine. And I’m sure that’s what will happen.”
The Biden Administration has also defended Hunter Biden’s decision to pursue legal action against the IRS, saying that the claims against Hunter were “utterly without merit” and that the IRS had a “longstanding pattern of harassment” against the Biden family.
Though the indictment failed to include any charges related to foreign business interests, Democrats have made it clear that they are standing behind Hunter Biden. While Republicans are likely to continue to push for further investigation, the Biden family appears to be standing firm in their support of Hunter.
It remains to be seen how the case will play out, but whatever the outcome, the Biden family is confident that the truth will eventually come to light and that Hunter will be exonerated.
