Whoopi Goldberg Misses ‘The View’ Premiere After Testing Positive for COVID-19
The season 27 premiere of the ABC talk show “The View” was held on Tuesday morning, but one of most-loved co-hosts, Whoopi Goldberg, could not attend due to testing positive for COVID-19. To make matters worse, her co-host Joy Behar seemed to be gleefully announcing to the audience, “yes, it’s back!”
The news of Whoopi Goldberg’s aborted attendance was met with a mix of emotions, with some of her fans expressing shock, disappointment, and concern about her health condition. A few also suggested that the staff of the show should take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all the presenters and staff.
Despite these fears and trepidations however, the show did not miss a beat. Having been absent since mid-December from the talk show, it seems the producers had already put measures in place to have Goldberg’s absence filled in due to the possibility of her failing to make it to the set. So when Behar exclaimed her joyous “yes, it’s back!” statement, she was referring to Goldberg’s empty seat being filled by guest hosts.
Immediately, Goldberg’s colleagues began to show their support on social media platforms. Host Sunny Hostin expressed her “thoughts and prayers” for Goldberg, writing, “We are sending so much love and prayers to our beloved friend Whoopi Goldberg. Get well soon, Whoopi!!”
Meanwhile, Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo tweeted his well-wishes to Goldberg and all the other people affected by the virus: “Sending our best to @WhoopiGoldberg who tested positive for #COVID19. Wishing her a full and speedy recovery,” he wrote on the platform.
Goldberg took to the microblogging platform to share her reaction, tweeting, “I want to thank everyone for their love and support! I’m really feeling good and am taking this day by day. I’ve been in touch with my doctors and with the help of some of the best, and I’ll be getting back to normal very, very soon.”
The veteran host and actress has had a long-running career in television and film, having earned herself an Oscar in 1985 for her performance in the film “The Color Purple”.
The recent news of Goldberg testing positive for the coronavirus serves as a reminder of how the pandemic has affected everyone, from celebrities to the everyday person. As we all strive to stay safe, healthy, and vigilant, we wish Whoopi Goldberg a speedy recovery and hope that we can all return to normalcy soon.
