The head of the paramilitary group of Wagner mercenaries, Yevgeny Prigozhin, announced this Saturday that his men, who were heading towards Moscow from southwestern Russia, are returning to their camps to avoid “a bloodbath”.

“Now is the time when blood can flow. That is why (…) our columns turn around and go back in the opposite direction to return to the camps,” Prigozhin declared in an audio posted on Telegram.

Since the announcement of the rebellion on Friday, Wagner’s men were present in three Russian regions: Rostov, Voronej and Lipetsk.
